Working method :
- I check my e-mail not only during my working programme, but also during weekends, holidays and evenings and this allows me to respond promptly to any query.
- When given a translation assignment, I study it carefully and ask for feedback and further information, if necessary.
- I only take an assignment if I have the requisite qualifications in that specific field and provided that I am certain that I can meet the deadline.
- I only accept new assignments after signing a contract with the client.
- I usually do my best to finish the job at least one day before the deadline, to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.
- Before starting the translation, I read the full text and I build a terminological list. When in doubt, I often contact the client to ask for details or clarification. Should any doubt still remain, I contact mother tongue specialists.
- I always check the correctness of the translation using research motors such as Google and various online, CD-ROM and paper-based (book-format) dictionaries.
- I do the translation based on the client’s requirements and, if possible, I use a CAT tool (Wordfast).
- I check the accuracy of the translation against the original file (time permitting, a few days after finishing work) and I am also very careful about checking:
o Bullets, numbers, order, content;
o Omissions;
o Numbers, names, addresses;
o Glossary inconsistencies
o Specifications: format, dpi, MB etc.
- I proofread by checking the file for:
o Typos, hyphenation errors
o Misspellings
o Grammar mistakes
o Correct use of brackets, full stops, commas or measurements (i.e. % signs, decimal figures, superscript) and other punctuation.
- If the text is highly specialized, I send the translation to a qualified proof-reader for terminological revision and editing.
- I deliver the translation to the client, notifying him / her of all relevant difficulties that occurred during the translation.
I always remain at the client’s disposal for post-delivery clarification.
