 CV
Presentation :
Looking around in the translation business, I think that I am not the only one, but still bring something special into my chosen job: I can look back on a sound technical education, working in the chemical and plastics industry for about 16 years and getting that important hands-on experience so I know what I'm talking about when I translate technical texts.
Besides my main job at the time, I've also always been interested in languages and started early to earn my first translator merits, translating novels in part-time. This made it that much easier to turn to translations as the business I wanted to work in when I couldn't go any further in the chemical field.
References :
I've worked successfully in-house as well as a freelancer for agencies specializing in patents, IT, marketing texts, etc. I am more than willing to provide you with more details or, alternatively, show my abilities through a short test translation.
Interests :
My interests are my job and vice versa, meaning I am always keen to hear what's going on in the wonderful world of chemistry, biochemistry (genetics), medicine (pharmaceuticals), IT and the entertainment business. Apart from that, I am interested in a good theatre play, film or just a book and spend some of my spare-time to also keep physically alert through running
Qualifications :
Starting off my technical career with a certificate in chemical engineering, I continued with achieving a master's certificate in plastics engineering and a quality management certificate.
Having finished with this part of my life (kind of), I achieved another certificate which makes me an officially certified translator for English to German and German into English (examined by the German chamber of commerce).
Master's certificate in plastics engineering
Quality management certificate
Very good understanding of the French and Spanish languages
Professional experience :
Starting with translations of science-fiction novels and detective stories about 15 years down the line, I eventually went full-time in 2001 after achieving my translator's diploma. My way took me almost immediately to England where I worked for a company specialized in translations of chemical and technical patents and switched after two years to a localization agency whose work was more in the IT and marketing area. In August 2004, I eventually broke the chains and became a freelancer.
Prices :
My prices are, foremost, always negotiable. Usual rates are 0.07 to 0.09 Euro (0.05 to 0.06 GBP) per word, however, it always depends on the subject matter of the text to be translated. Discounts are applied on high word counts and on a permanent collaboration.
Working method :
I believe in the fact that the deadlines of a client are most important and am pleased to say that I've never jeopardized a job through late delivery.
