I am an English veterinary surgeon now working as a freelance locum vet and translator. I have been living and working in France for the past 3 years. I have been working full time as a translator for 18 months.

Professional experience :
Having worked as a veterinary surgeon in the UK for 2 years, I moved to France where I worked as a locum vet for 18 months and, since early 2003, as a freelance translator. To date I have translated over 450,000 words, the vast majority of this work has been the translation of human medical and pharmaceutical journal articles, drug data sheets, medical device manuals, cosmetic products etc . With my veterinary background I have an extensive specialist medical vocabulary and am also able to translate any texts concerning animals (particularly horses), the environment and agriculture. I have also started translating children's books - both fictional and non-fiction.
Prices :
0.08 to 0.11 € per source word translations, 30€ per hour for proofreading.
Working method :
I like to receive my work via email as Word documents, I can usually complete between 2000 and 4000 words per day, depending on complexity and current work load. I proof read all my documents three times prior to sending them, I use Stedmans medical electronic dictionary to help with the spelling of specific medical terms and drug names. I have an extensive network of medical, veterinary and dental contacts both in France and the UK.
